What is this? Blue "lego" block

I'm working with a template someone else created, and the document title is
entered as something I've never seen before (I'm new to 2007). If I click on
it there's a border, and on the left side is a blue box that looks kind of
like a lego block. What is this? I thought it might be a building block, but
I can't figure out how to work with it. I can't delete it or change the text,
and I don't even know how to search for help because I don't know what it is.

Please help!!

It's called a "content control". It's like a form field, but it's connected
to the Title document property. You should be able to change the text unless
the control has been locked.

The best way -- even if the control is locked -- is to change the Title
value in the document properties. Click the Office button, click Prepare,
and click Properties at the top of the menu. In the resulting properties
pane, change the title; then close the pane. The title shown in the document
should have changed to the new value.

If you want to work in the content control instead, you can do that, and it
will change the Title property. To do that, first click the Office button,
click Word Options in the bottom right corner of the menu, click the Popular
tab on the left side of the dialog, and check the box for "Show Developer
tab in the ribbon". Close the dialog.

Click the content control to select it. In the tabs across the top of the
Word window, click on the Developer tab. In the middle, click the Properties
button to open the Properties dialog for the selected content control.

In the center of that dialog, if the box for "Contents cannot be edited" is
checked, uncheck it to allow entering text.

Just realized I neglected to thank you both for your help. Once I knew they
were called content controls, I knew what to search for! And your links and
info were very helpful.
