Using Windows Xp.When I minimise an application it goes down to the
foot of the monitor until called up again ..recently however an odd
thing has appeared .It looks like another minimised window but nothing
happens when you click it or right click it .It looks exactly the same
as the others but without any application name .There is an icon on
it tho'..like a small IE window ..white with a blue line across the
top ...anyone any idea what causes this .I think the only way to get
rid of it is to reboot ..

sounds like either a dos program or an exe with no built in icon.
it also sounds like you may a spyware/malware problem to deal with.
I'd suggest Spybot Search & Destroy, and Ad-Aware.

You can run msconfig.exe and review auto loading program entries on the
Startup tab.

maybe just double click it
could be a shrunken window
patiently waiting to fill your screen
with a picture of Bob or somethin

Tried that .It didnt work but I ran Adaware and Spybot S+D which seems
to have sorted it ..I think it came via Bit-Torrents.
