What is the Purpose of the Personal Folders File?

I Have Outlook 2003 and I just added my msn email account. Above my MSN
folder there is a folder that says Personal Folders. I don't understand the
use of it. How can I get rid of it because it seems like it serves no purpose
to me just an annoying folder that sits above my email account.

Outlook 2003 keeps ALL folders it that file; Inbox, Drafts, Contacts,
Calendar, Sent Items, and any other folder that you may have created.

Unless you are using the Microsoft Outlook Connector, your MSN account data has to be held in a file that can't hold items such as contacts and tasks, only mail. Therefore, you need a .pst file for those non-mail items, as well as the file that holds your MSN account data.
