What is the problem???

Like many other posters, just stumped on this one!

I created a GP to install an application. The MSI is
prepared and works. I used the Computer section to assign
the package to the machine. Ran secedit /refreshpolicy
machine_policy /enforce.

As a test, I put only one computer into a new OU, applied
the policy to the OU. I gave read/apply gp rights to the
domain computers group. The share for the software has the
correct permissions. Naturally, the policy doesn't work.

I ran gpresult and found that the policy is supposed to
apply. Running gpresult /v shows that no software
installation occurs. Nothing in the event viewer.

I explicitly put the computer name instead of the group
name in all of the above, no change.

I ran gpupdate /force. No effect. I'm clearly missing
something but no sure where to go from here.

BTW, does anyone have a good book on GP to recommend?
Something that gets way down below the hood.

Thanks and Happy Holidays!

If the software distribution policy is assigned under the
computer configuration seetings, the software should
install the next time the computer is booted. I don't
believe a /refreshpolicy will do the trick.

By the way, a good book on Group Policy is from Jerry
Moskowitz: Windows 2000 Group Policy, Profiles, and
Intellimirror
