What is the Largest Drive Size XP-Sp1 can support natively?

I'm trying to install XP Sp1 on a 250GB drive and keep getting a page fault
in partmgr.sys at the very beginning of setup, after it loads basic drivers
and goes into "starting windows setup". This message is given on a blue stop
error screen. I've been told XP Sp1 doesn't support a drive that large
without special SW loading at boot time and making it available to windows.
Can anyone confirm that or has anyone seen and tshot this issue?

256TB or so...

Whomever told you about XP SP1's limitations - well - don't bring them
anything computer-like and pay them to fix it.

Having said that - test the drive with the manufacturer's diagnostics and
while that is going on - slipstream SP2 into your media for good measure.
