What is the indent size?

I am using Excel 2003 on a Windows 2000 machine.

I am having problems when we indent subheadings in Excel. We place our
subheadings in the leftmost column of our excel sheets. To set the
indentation in our subheadings we use the increase indent, and decrease
indent buttons in the menu bar.

We would like to know how much space is indented for each click of the
indent button in the menu bar.
Is this amount of indentation dependent on the font in the cell being
indented. My specific problem is that I am trying to set up the
indents to 2en, 3en, and 5en spaces using the Courier New font. Is
there any way to set up the indent button to do this?
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

This will not help much, but most things like this in Excel are controlled
by the width of a fixed with font at a certain size. The only thing you can
get for the indent level is an integer number between 1-15, there is no way
to set it to a certain measurement AFAIK.

Experimenting, if you set a cell to Courier at 15 point and enter 15
characters (Say A's) and set the column width to the outer limit of the
entries and then repeatedly press 'increase indent' through it's 15 levels,
you will see it moves exactly one character at a time out of the cell width.

As I say doesn't help much, but I doubt it is possible to do exactly as you
require
