what is the desktop "cleanup" service ??

As the subject say, what uses the desktop cleanup "service"? I got an
info that wanted to "clean" my desktop as some icons haven't been used.
Never had that "service" even when I installed the sp3.

My system is now reinstalled real clean on a new harddrive using a
slipstreamed cd that has winxp sp3. Strange that things behave
differently as opposed to just installing the sp3.

I just want to kill the watchdog that wants to destroy my desktop the
way I like it.

Also anyway to also kill the "error msg" that say my firewall isn't
active? I do use a router with the firewall on. Another item that
didn't exist before!

Clean up:
Desktop properties -> Desktop tab -> checkbox at the bottom

Firewall:

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/security/internet/sp2_disablefwalerts.mspx

To be more specific: right mouse click on a clean area of your
desktop.

That will open a dropdown menu: left click on "Properties."

That will open a window with tabs: left click on the tab marked
"Desktop."

That will open the Desktop menu: left click the "Customize desktop..."
button at the bottom.

That will open yet another window: under the General tab, uncheck the
box for "Run Desktop Cleanup Wizard every 60 days."

If you want, you can also open the "Web" tab and check the box for
"Lock desktop items."

Cheers

Pardon my ignorance but what is 'an info'?

--

I should have been more specific. It is an icon on the tray with "I"
for information; like the "windows security alerts" except the info
icon is not red since it is "information only". At least it warned me
before doing the cleaning.

I have no idea how long it feels is too long but I have my desktop
set to the way I want it no matter how long between usage. I don't
follow the "advice" to download the program onto the desktop then
run it from the desktop; this definitely clutter the desktop if one
doesn't remove the install icon.

This was my 1st time encountering the "info" on my tray.
