What is the default registry permission for HKLM?

hi All,

I have created an additional user and added it to the
Administrator's group. I've started "regedit" and then
went to HKLM and right click and tried to create an
additional key. I got the following error:

Cannot create key: Error writing to the registry

Is this normal? I'm trying to use Windows scripting to
add some lines to the Windows XP registry. Any help? This
behavior does not seem to apply to HKCR, HKCU, HKCC. It
only happens with HKLM and HK_Users.

Any pointers would be appreciated. Thank you.

Regards,
cml

This depends on which specific sub branch you're trying to write to. The
permissions vary.

Hi

You can only add a new key to a sub branch of HKLM. New keys added directly to HKLM are via other means - global hardware info or OS data for example.
