And why does it crash and create an error log? It seems strange things
happen afterward like I can't disconnect without actually turning off the
modem. Also, I think it affects links so that they don't work on some
sites.

Strange too, when I first boot I have svchost.exe listed twice in Task
Manager. I'm running 2000 pro on a standalone computer with no wireless
gadgets. I mention that because all I can find on the MS Knowledge page is
a reference to wireless stuff.

A virus enters your dailup port(s) and tries to search for a way to
send data out through the ports randomly and crashes. Some viruses may
even copy itself and then exit through email programs, infecting your
friends and clients.

Solutions:

1) Reinstall Win2000, run (free) ZoneAlarm http://tinyurl.com/kzq or
2) Download/Run Symantec (free) Blaster: http://tinyurl.com/jqks or
3) Download/Run Symantec (free) Welchia: http://tinyurl.com/ki96 or
4) Download/Run MS's (free) antivirus http://tinyurl.com/h5l9 or
5) Use AOL dail-up.

The first choice saves time and conflicts and should solve it. But
run ZoneAlarm before dailing-up, I guess you know that. And search
your pc for msblast.exe http://tinyurl.com/2h2me in your system32
folder before going with choice 5.
