What is Spools.exe?

I am having a problem when using MS word or MS word pad. A program called
spools.exe that is running in the background is causing the busy symbol (hour
glass) to come on every 10 seconds and stops the courser to continue while
I'm typing. It stalls the courser for about a second and then the courser
catches up to what I've typed.
Does anyone know what the program called spools.exe that's running in the
background does and how to keep it from stalling MS word every 10 seconds?

It sounds like you have a worm, either SDBOT.TD or RBOT-LD. Here are a
