I recently installed XP.

I often get this Local Area Connection on Linux IGD showing up on my
Network Connections, in addition to my regular LAN connection. I don't
know how it gets there or what it does, but it seems to bog down the
system and LAN so badly, in the majority of the cases, the Internet
stops working.

I cannot delete or disconnect it from the networking panel either. On
the settings page, it shows svhost.exe.

I would appreciate any advice on how to deal with it.

Thank you in advance ...

Are you quite sure it shows "svhost.exe", spelled exactly like you typed it?
If this is correct, you have a virus. Follow cleanup instructions from:

It could have been svchost.exe, but I doubt that. I restored the
machine to an earlier state and downloaded CA EZ Trust, and it seems
fine for now. Please advice anything else that might be applicable.

Yes, for staying safe. It looks like the links that you posted have
good information. The internet connection hangs up once in a while but
it's a lot better now. I will check out the procedures on those links.

Thanks ...
