What is best way to create a thesis template please?

Hi. I am soon to start writing up my PhD (UK) and want to know the best way
to set up & use a 'thesis template' - and what short cuts/features are really
useful. So - which is the best version to import & what steps do I take?
And will this be compatible with End Notes Cite while you write software?

What do you mean by 'best version to import' ? Import from where? Are you a
sociologist?

The best way is the way that is most acceptable to your
university, your department chair, and your faculty advisor...
try asking them. Microsoft Word 2000 and later versions are
compatible with the CWYW feature in Endnote 6 and later versions.
