What is "backWeb"? Help!

A microsoft message comes up each time I boot up saying
backWeb-7288971.exe has encountered a problem and needs
to close. "Send" or "Don't Send".
Error Signature reads:
Mod name: msvcrt.dll
Mod Version: 7.02600.0
Offset: 0002F548

It has only been happening this last week and it is
annoying. How can I get rid of it? Thanks

BackWeb was a program used years ago by McAfee to update
anti-virus, but they no longer use that. The idea of
backweb is a program that will do file transfer and
installation to a target computer. You may have a Trojan or
spyware. I don't know off-hand of any legitimate program
using backweb anymore.

Get SpyBot from www.security.kolla.de and it will look for
and remove hostile spyware and dialers.

HP uses BackWeb on their new Pavilion systems. It's part of an option
called "HP Center". Apparaently its used to keep track of what hardware is
attached to the system so that HP can send the user notices about upgrades,
drivers, etc. If you disable the HP Center via the Start > Programs menu,
it will stop trying to send. I used Zone Alarm to figure this one out.
