wow, i even get a long-winded explanation about why i'm not getting
help in a newsgroup just like the long-winded explanation from
microsoft about they're not gonna help me with defender.

when i asked microsoft about a defender question, which was actually a
problem with the auto-update/microsoft update, they said it was in beta
and they weren't gonna help.

i ask this question, which i thought refered to "system restore," in
here, and i get the same response: it's in beta and we're not going to
help you.

but, anyway, i already found my answer in another forum. it seems that
there's a bug in defender that causes it to make a whole bunch of
restore points during the day (which eat about 25 megabytes each) for
no good reason at all.

so, i uninstalled it. problem solved.
