What is a 'Special Share'

Hi All,

I have WindowsXPpe[sp2] on my test computer, and when I use WinAudit,
it tells me that the 4 partions on the hard disk are a network 'Special
Share'. I have checked the properties on all 4 drives, and sharing is
not enabled. What is a 'Special Share', and what would have activated
it.

By default there are what's called Administrative Shares enabled.

Hi R. McCarty,

I read the article, and what is strange is that I have WindowsXPpe[sp2]
on my development machine also, and the 'Adminitrative share' is not
there and to my knowledge has never been there.

I checked the 3 Home Editions here and they don't have it either. It
just seems to be that one machine. I am getting ready to try the
registry setting they said and see if that solves the problem.

If you refer to hidden Administrative Shares, they are not available on
XP Home and they can be disabled on XP Pro.
