What is a nonblocking socket?

I hope I don't sound too stupid, but, I am trying to reinstall some software
that I bought onto my new computer. When I try to send the reference number
to the website to register it a message comes up saying ' The socket is
marked as nonblocking and the connection cannot be completed. It is possible
to select the socket while it is connecting by selecting it for writing'.

When I click the OK button, a message comes up saying ' Could not connect to
.....com. This could be because you are not physically connected to the
internet'
Please tell me what this all means and how I can fix it. The support person
at the site could not help.

Cheers,
Rowan

"Some software". "connect to ....com". Don't know why you are hiding
the facts. Do you really want help?

"that I bought onto my new computer". Nonsensical statement. Do you
mean that you are trying to reinstall software that was pre-installed
on the computer? Why are you reinstalling it? What is this unnamed
software? What is the unnamed site (or the software maker)?

"When I try to send ...". Smoke signals? Postal mail? E-mail? Online
web form? Phone-home utility in the unnamed program?

If the support person for the software can't figure out how to get
their software to work, you may need to call back and talk to someone
more intelligent or make sure you explain it better to them. Could be
you talked to the wrong type of support person; i.e., maybe it is a
problem with their web site and not with their software. The message
is specific to the unnamed program so I doubt anyone can tell you
"what this all means".

Since you never explain what you meant by "When I try to send" as to
HOW you are sending some "reference number" to some unnamed site for
some unnamed software, it's anyone guess as to what is the problem.
Could it was a server-side error message that you saw in a web browser
so there is nothing you can do about their **** up. Could be you are
using their program to phone home to give them some info and their
program ****s up. We aren't there looking over your shoulder to know
the rest of your story.

The software vendor should be able to shed some light on the problem or
provide alternative registration methods.
