What is a Microsoft shell/user or whatever? Thanks

Previously, many MVPs were designated by various operating systems, though
early on, our group was referred to as desktop systems but that no longer
applied since so many have laptops.
As Windows has evolved and many of the MVPs moved on to the new versions,
Microsoft changed the designation from the individual operating system to
Shell/User. The shell is the environment in which you work on your computer
and specifically our group deals with user issues and well as with problems
with the things concerning the operating system as well as the various other
elements involved.
Shell/User was simply an enlarged designation to encompass all aspects of
the operating system and user issues.
