What is 32 and 64 bit?

I don't know where to find out if I have 32 or 64
bit "whatevers" and I think I am supposed to know this.

You do what you should have done before posting - you search the group(s) to
see if anyone might conceivably have had a similar problem. Had you done so,
you'd have found at least 5,000 answers to your question - please visit the

Because the 64 bit systems are extremely expensive systems for users who
need that kind of capability for their higher demand needs. So, as has
already been said numerous times, if you have to ask, yours is a 32-bit
system. 64-bit systems are not dolled out by accident.
 
You have 32bit most likely - 99.98% Chance

If you have XP Home it is for sure 32bit.

If you have XP Pro..Right click on My Computer and select Properties. If
you see 64-bit in there anywhere u have 64 it it does not say 64 then u have
32.
 
Because the only 64-Bit version of XP is:
XP 64-Bit Edition Version 2003

So I guess th OP would know if he really had a 64-Bit system :-)
 
If you have XP Pro then it's also 32-Bit :-)
