What Has SP2 Done to Internet Explorer?

Beforw SP2, evrything worked fine. Now:

- Auto complete does not work, and yes, it is on now, I have turned it off,
rebooted, turned it on, turned it on and re-booted, and nothing works. I
have cleared history, cleared cookes, cleared files, shut donw, restarted,
etc. etc. etc.

- Glaciers move faster than an autosearch typed in the address bar.
Searches from google are fast as ligntning.

- When I click the down arrow in the address bar to re-use URL's I've
already typed, it takes a minimum of 30 secs to get a drop dwon to appear,
and I am not exaggerating. And yes, I have cleared history, so there are at
most two or three entries.

- A general question - does the hard disk ever stop? Will it ever take
less than 5 minutes to reboot? Will I ever be able to tell when a reboot has
completed so thsat I don't try to launch programs too soon, and then lock up
the machine? Yes, I have de-fragged the disk.

I am not a happy camper.

A Service Pack install removes all the Prefetch data files and
replaces 2600+ system files. Your drive is "Highly" fragmented.
After several days of use, Prefetch will update the Layout.Ini
file and at idle system time, defrag your drive. This is a natural
effect of the Service Pack. I recommend that everyone who
installs Sp2 do an immediate defrag after the reboot is complete.
**For better defrag/Higher performance results investigate an
excellent product called Perfect Disk 2000 (Version 6.0)
They offer a 30-Day trial from their website. www.raxco.com

Defrag did not fix it.

I also tried to re-install Internet Explorer from the IE web site, but I
cannot. It says I have a later version (than what's on the web
site!!!!!!!!!!). How in the world can that be?

One more thing, if I click "My Computer", it takes over 60 seconds for a
list to come up.

Is there a way to fall back from XP2?

So you are not dealing with disk performance. A defrag never
hurts after a SP, so it's not time wasted. Have you checked the
System & Application Event logs. Click Start, Run (type)
Eventvwr.msc. Check each log for Red Icons and double-click
each to read the Event # and a short description.
I'm assuming you use AdAware & Spybot and have updated
each ones definition files and done a full system scan. For XP to
have sluggish performance is likely some type of Service or App
that is running or trying to run. Event viewer can help to isolate
problems.

I did scans and and it did not fix the problem. It's not spyware or
botware. I want to delete and re-install Internet Explorer but I can't find
an "Add/Remove Program" entry for it. When I try to install it from the MS
site it says I have a later version. I am totally stumped. I have been at
this all day. Whay is Microsoft so diabolical? How on God's Green Earth can
I not have an "Add/Remove" entry in Add/Remove prgrams? How can I
have a more up to date version on my PC than on the MS site? What the _ _
_ _ is going on?

:

You have a newer version than is on the web site because you installed
SP-2. You're not supposed to be installing IE on XP from the web site,
because it comes with Windows.
