What... Happens when Vista expires?

After the expiration date June 1 next year, what happens? Does Vista fail to
boot, or give a message that it's expired, or let you use the OS but continue
to bug you to upgrade to the retail version, etc.

Why are you even worried? Aren't you going to install the later beta
versions and the RC1 version when they become available for testing?

Reduced Functionality Mode...

That means your files are locked... unless you use another OS...

Ah... so that would render Vista unusable.

The later betas and RC1 all share the same fate.

With a different time frame - yes. They ARE NOT meant to be used
indefinitely. If you like the O/S, buy the O/S when it is released.

This presupposes that I like the OS, and that I am in a position to buy it.
It may just be that I want to have some experience of it, while it's
available for free.

In that circumstance, will it be possible to remove it and go back to XP?

No...

The FAQ says that you will be unable to uninstall Windows Vista Beta 2
or RC 1 and revert back to Windows XP.

If you installed Windows Vista Beta 2 or RC 1 on a separate partition,
then yes. If you didn't use BitLocker then you should be able to read
your files in Windows XP.

Thanks Nicholas,

I guess I ought to go read the FAQ before posting in future...

I have installed it as a dual boot with XP, and I have not used BitLocker,
but when Vista BSOD'd on me it managed to lock out one of my drives from XP
just the same.

Good luck

Of course. Just delete it's partition, and install another OS. It is,
after all, an Operating System, not a piece of hardware you can't remove
from your machine.
