after Vista expires

Does anyone know what exactly happens when evaluation copies of Windows Vista
expire in May/June? If my computer is on at the expiration time, will Vista
shut down and is that the end of all evaluation copies forever?

will

From everything I've heard so far, it will go into some sort of limited
functionality mode pretty much the same thing that would happen if you
have a pirated copy and SPP kicks in, this would mean that you only have
limited access to your files and very limited internet connectivity. And I
assume at some point it would probably cease to work altogether.

But don't take this as fact, this is only what I've been able to find out
on various forums I haven't yet seen anything about it on the microsoft
sites all that is mentioned on the microsoft sites is that it will expire
not how it will happen.

I haven't given this one much thought but, if you take Windows XP as an
example, the activation period is 30 days. After 30 days, if you did not
activate, when you started your pc a message came up to say that you needed
to activate windows. If you said, 'no' then you had no access at all to the
windows desktop.

With Vista i assume that at the end of the grace period a similar thing will
happen, i.e., you will not have access to the operating system.

June 1, 2007 is the deadline for all Vista evaluation copies - but
after Dec. 1, 2006 a *trial* version of Vista should be availabe.

Maybe you could install Vista into a Virtual PC and change the date and see
what happens.
