what gives with this? (file problem)

Just got an error message of a type I haven't seen before, about a file I've
never seen or heard of.

The error message is telling me:

1. the file can't be saved

2. the data in the file is lost

3. try to save the file to another location.

One of several problems here is I have no idea where the file they're
talking about currently is. Nothing is showing as open.

Here's the text:

"Windows was unable to save all the data for the file G:\$Mft. The data has
been lost. This error may be caused by a failure of your computer hardware
or network connection. Please try to save this file elsewhere"

How do I find out what's going on, here, and figure out what I may have lost
over this file corruption?

The error message contains the file name. It might be a hidden file or a
system file. If so, you must enable IE to show such files.

As for what the file might contain, I'll pass.

Where is your G drive? What s the drive, physically, and how is it
attached?

You'lll probably also see that the first part of this message is "Delayed
Write Failed".

So, try googling the exact error message, which will return things like...

You're absolutely right. I should have included that header in the error
message.

The error message makes me think that the file was not in fact saved.
The only place that you need to look is in the root folder of the drive.
