What exactly does the XP in Windows XP stand for?

What exactly does the XP in Windows XP stand for? Just interested to know.
 
On the front of the folder the Windows XP CD comes in is the word
eXPerience. (the XP is emphasized).

as in the Windows eXPerience.

Jokingly it's also been said to stand for eXPensive and so on ...

Windows XP is the marketing name for Windows NT 5.1
NT was thought to be an acronym for "New Technologies"

Yeah, but it's in lower case.

Actually all you computer geeks are all wrong as XP stands for eXtra

My 4 month old daughter told me, "XPllllppptt!" and it makes more sense
than what either of you said.
