what does XP in "Windows XP" stand for ?

hi ... i was just wondering if anybody could help me understand what "XP"
actually means in the name "Windows XP" ... as NT in "Windows NT" means "New
Technology" i thought XP should also mean something.

one of my friends was telling me it meant "eXtreme Programming" but i really
did not agree with him because it sounded strictly software development
related terminology rather than a "marketing" one. besides, it would be
surprising for me to know that microsoft was using extreme programming as
its software development methodology ... i beleive MS must have invented its
own methodology which it won't wanna reveal to the world like this.

any ideas ?

It's a common question. Notwithstanding the usual jokes whenever
anyone asks it here, it stands for eXPerience.

As a matter of interest, although "NT" originally was supposed to
have stood for "New Technology," Microsoft now claims that it
stands for nothing.
