Folks: I have files generated with a ~$ that appear corrupted.
Additionally, my file in the left hand pane flashes yellow. Any ideas.

These are hidden temporary files created by Word or another application.

When you open a document in Word it renames the original file with the
~$ at the beginning of the name, flags it hidden and then creates a new
copy of the file with the original file name. It is this new copy that
you actually edit in Word, and the original, renamed and hidden file is
there for undo and recovery purposes. For example, opening a file named
3.doc creates a temporary hidden file named ~$3.doc. When the 3.doc file
is closed the ~$3.doc hidden file is deleted. If the application does
not close the file properly for what ever reason, then these temp files
don't get deleted by the application. You may delete them manually.
