What does this mean and how to I get rid of it?

This symbol is on the screen and I can't get it to delete and I think it's
something to do with formatting, but I don't know... help!

Thes are the Paragraph Marks and you are seeing the Non-Printing Characters
that can help the Word user know exactly what is happening with the document.
