what does this error code mean?

wgenever i try to get definition updates for mindows defender, i get this
error code 0x80004002. it says the program cant check for definition updates.
what does this code mean? what do i have to do to correct whatever the
problem is? i've ran the code number in the search boxes and all i get back
is a notification stating that there are no results for that code search.
thank you for any help resolving this problem

Also if you use the Microsoft Systems Management Server (SMS) 2003 Inventory
Tool for Microsoft Updates (ITMU) to scan for updates, You are going ro get
the error number

now i am getting this message "Network policy settings prevent you from using
this website to get updates for your computer." i am using one of my personal
computers that isnt on a network. i control all settings fo this computer. no
one but me ever uses my computer. what could be causing this? it did not do
this until i downloaded windows defender.

Hi c-bird,

In windowsupdate.log scroll to the very end of this log file, and then
work back to the beginning of that last update attempt. Cut and paste just
that tail end of the log file to a response in this thread. Let's see if we
can tell what is hªppening.

Also, Doesn't hurt to try cleaning up the system (clearing out all the
Temp/Tmp folders, and included all offline content, clearing the browser TIF,
Delete Cookies , do a Disk CleanUp.

Please confirm your system clock and Time Zone also the Date set properly,
Having it set incorrectly can cause this type of behavior.

Reboot

Try again the updates
