When you configure Outlook 2003 to Archive messages Tools\Options\Other
tab\Auto Archive button there are 2 checkboxes I dont understand their
behaviour if I check them, one is the:
Delete exprired items (e-mail folders only) and the other is
Archive or delete old items.
Can someone explain to me exactly what the behavior is if I check or dont
check.

Hello -
Did you ever find out what these two checkboxes mean? I am trying to figure
them out also -

No sorry, nobody ever replied with a response or I did not find it
anywhere else either.

Delete Expired Items (e-mail folders only): On an Exchange server, you have
the option to set an expiration on a message so that after that time, the
message will be 'expired'. What 'expired' means varies depending upon what
has happend to the message in the recipients mailbox. If someone were to
send you an email, like 'Donuts in Conf Room ABC' and set it to expire at
noon that day, if you never read the message and no rule moves it (and it
isn't in a pst), it should be deleted by Outlook. If you read the message,
it'll be greyed out and crossed out in your message list. This checkbox
will just delete the expired message from your email folders, regardless of
whether they meet archive status, so long as the message is expired.

Archive or delete old items:
Well, it does exactly what it says. It will archive (or delete) items that
meet the the criteria you specify below that checkbox, or that you specify
on specific folders, based on whatever options you give it.

The way I understand it, with the check box enabled, messages that have an
expiration date set will be permanently deleted by AutoArchive when it runs
regardless of whether or not they're eligible for archiving. The other
checkbox controls what AutoArchive does when the modified date matches the
archive criterion.
