What does in mean 'enable interrupts'?

In Event Viewer two error messages reads as follows:

Could not enable interrupts on connected port device \Device\PointerClass0.

Any idea what this means?

It probably means you have a bad mouse (or other "pointer") or mouse
driver. Check Device Manager to see if there's more info there. Use
Start|Help if you don't know where Device Manager is.

But my mouse is about the only thing that is working really well. Nothing
in Device Manager to indicate a problem nor am I getting any freezes. It's
plugged into my USB port. Perhaps this is one error message which I can
afford to ignore. Thanks for explaining it to me, Dan.

The date/time the error was logged will play a part in determining what
to worry about also. For example, did this happen when you changed mice
6 weeks ago or did it happen during the last boot.

It happens each time I boot. Yet the mouse works great. It's a PCLine
attached to the USB port.

No, no other pointer devices show up.

Bob I said:
Any other "pointer devices" show up in device manager if you "Show
Hidden Devices" under View?

Since my mouse seems to be working properly and I'm not getting the freezes
normally caused by a buggy mouse, I think I'll leave things as they are and
just ignore the error message.
I think this Event Log is turning me into a PC hypochondriac.
