What do people use the SMTP Service on XP for?

Hello

I have come across the SMTP service on XP if you install IIS. What is the
application for this? Is it for people hosting say a web server on an
intranet allowing an email service from the web server?

I am interested to know how this is likely to be used?

I am using it for some testing.

Yes I understand what SMTP is. My question was how the service would be
used on a workstation computer.

IIRC, SMTP allows you to send mail, POP allows you to receive it.

| address (IP) to use it effectively.
