What do I need?

I have just a CD reader in my computer. I have a friend who has burned live
video onto his DVD from a TV. He made four burns....files...tracks or
whatever?? What do I need to extract a burn, file, track or whatever from
his DVD disk onto my hard drive as a file. avi file or something I can
convert into a Movie file. What hardware do I need? Will an external DVD
player or writer and its software do it? As you see, I'm pretty dumb on this
subject. I do allot of reading but it's all over my head. They don't speak
English. From what I've read, it's an easy thing to do.

Yes, an external DVD drive should
allow you to open and RIP the DVD.

Hi Morris,
I think I am Dunmber than you when it comes to computers....I found myself
in your position a year or so ago..made movie.....,thanks to shortcomings
with MMM no way to burn DVD...The Forum guys were a great help with their
advice...trouble was deciding on what particular extra pack to get. In
desperation and with no knowledge on the subject I went for Pinnacle...sadly
I have never been able to get tis to work in my setup (my ignorance I think?).
Anyway,I then bought an External Drive system,accompanied with all the
software (Nero,Power Producer Gold et al),I need to burn as many CD's DVD as
I like,without hassle or effort (except when it comes to .avi files).In UK
this package cost me about 50.oo.......regret having to have spent out for
the Pinnacle set...put it down to a "learning curve I guess"?
Thought this might be a little helpful....XP Newsgroup here are very,very
helpfull on all aspects of the MMM process...I have a lot to thank them
for...Good luck....
