What do dotted underlines (like ellipses) beneath text mean?

My text has dotted underlines (black, similar to ellipses) beneath the text
in a Word document. What do those mean? How do I remove them? They are not
grammar lines. Thanks.

It means that the font is formatted as hidden. If you do not want it to be
visible, turn off the display of hidden text. If you want the text to be
visible, but don't want the dotted underline, remove the hidden formatting
from the font.
