What did I do wrong?

Yesterday I canceled my Earthlink account because my free subscription ran
out. This morning I removed it from my Add/Remove Programs but for some
reason, when I sign onto Outlook Express, I get and error message saying:
There was a problem logging onto you mail server. Your Password was
rejected. Account: 'ptrcmcc6@remove this Earthlink.net Mail Account',
Server: 'pop.earthlink.net', Protocol: POP3, Server Response: '-ERR bad
password or unknown username', Port:110 Secure (SSL): No, Server Error:
0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC92.
Can anybody help me as to why this message is coming up? I am connected to
the internet via Verizon DSL with a microsoft wireless router. I also have
an AOL account which doesn't seem to be affected. Any help would be
appreciated.

P.S. Before I did whatever I did wrong, my Earthlink mail would be
forwarded to Outlook Express where I could open it there if this means
anything.
 
Did you go into 'Tools'/' Accounts' and change the stuff there from
EarthLink to your new acct.?

You probably have Outlook set to automatically retrieve and/or send your
email when you start it.

And it's doing the mail for your old email addresses.
 
Thanx, that worked. I also removed two names in there that I didn't
recognize - BigfootInternet & WhosHereNow. How the heck did these two get
in there? I've never heard of them before. Could they be spyware? I run
my Adaware, Spybot, and Spyware Doctor all the time and i've never seen
these come up.
 
P.S. to my 2nd post. Besides Bigfoot and whosherenow, there is another one
called Active Directory. Can I delete that one also?? Or did I do
something wrong again by deleted the other two?
 
You're welcome.
Those are there by default. They are directory services that you can use to
find people, computers, etc. They come with outlook express on a normal
install and are harmless. You can delete them or keep them.

Did you go into Tools - Accounts - Mail and delete the account? It is most
likely still set up in OE and still set to poll their server for email.
