and a mobo. I have an 2500XP amd now and asus something or other. I
don't want to spend more than $250. I might need a new power supply
too if I go up. I don't know. Thanks for any info.

If I were you, I would save some more cash, then upgrade more components at
once. By this I mean CPU, Mobo, and GPU in one go, I think you would notice
a far better performance per $ in the slightly longer term.

It's easy to use a junk email address for joining lists. If you look at
my reply to address, you can see it will not last forever. I'll only use
that for a few months. In the case of joining any lists that insist on
email registration, I only need to use a particular address once.

It is always of the form: month-year@domain. Hitting reply will work
for a couple of months only. Later set it manually.

You get more processing power with AMD than Intel for the same money.
I've had technicians tell me that Intel is slightly better with video,
but I find that hard to believe. At this time I recommend a 64-bit
processor. A quality P/S should considered (I have an Antec). For
specific recommendations it would be good to know how you will be
using the CPU (business, games, movies, server, etc).

Should I wait for dual core stuff to come down in price? I am using my
machine for development (c#..., asp.net, web applications).

Thanks for everyone's ideas!
