What CPU does Compaq SR1638NX use?

According to HP website

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...me=c00494995&lc=en&jumpid=reg_R1002_USEN#N327

It uses the following:

Athlon 64 3400+ 2.2 GHz

*
1600 MT/s (Mega Transfers/second)
*
Socket 939

The problem is that according to the AMD website, there's no 3400+ CPU
for socket 939. They have 3200+ and 3500+, but 3400+ is only for socket
754. Also, socket 754 uses HP speed 1600, whereas 939 uses 2000. Am I
missing something here? Which CPU are they exactly using?

A trip to the parts store got me here. Model ED879AA. The motherboard
is "Amethyst M GL6E", OEM from MSI.

Entering that motherboard as a search term on the main www.hp.com web
page, gets me here. I'm not sure whether this is the right
board or not, but is seems to be socket 939 (four DIMMs).

Which I click "View All Products" here, I don't see any S939 3400+.
Only S754. Hmmm.

http://www.amdcompare.com/us-en/desktop/Default.aspx

Since all the adverts selling that product just regurgitate what
HP/Compaq feeds them, don't expect to see any further details
on what you are getting.

Occasionally, some web sites sell processors which are not listed
on the AMD web site, and I cannot understand why AMD doesn't list
_everything_ they ship, on their web site. If someone ever pulls
off the heatsink on their computer, how will they know what they
are dealing with ? Every product shipped should be acknowledged
by AMD. Like, say a BIOS designer is preparing a BIOS to deal
with every processor made - how will they cover all these "wierdo"
processors that are not listed ?

If it is any consolation I am experiencing similar problems/confusion
myself!!

You would *expect* AMD to list all of its CPU's on its own website wouldn't
you?

I expect the retailer is lying.

I would suggest emailing the retailer with your concerns.

Either that or buying the product and sueing them if is mis-sold.

If you buy it from a store you could ask for a letter from the manager
agreeing to compensate your costs and inconvienience if they have
sold you something which is not what it is described as.

The HP site is correct I believe.AMD do do a 939 3400+, but only for
some big computer manufacturers such as HP Compaq etc..and I also
believe it is a 1600 not a 2000 HT model.

It is a pity they don't give the cache sizes but I bet they are not very
big.

I found this info from the forums on the AMD website.
