What causes WD2002 text to hang

While typing in Word, the program stops responding, what can cause this?
 
My guesses are either a damaged normal.dot template, or a printer
driver problem.

For the former, follow the instructions in item 2 of
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErrors/ProbsOpeningWord.htm .

For the latter, try selecting a different default printer in
Windows, and see if the problem persists. If that fixes the
problem, then try reinstalling the printer driver for your
regular printer, and you might check the printer manufacturer's
website for an updated driver while you're at it.
