What causes rules to be client side only

I have an exchange 2003 environment and my clients connect to the server
using rcp over https.

I have created several rules and I have an additonal mailbox opened under my
mail mailbox.
When I create a rule to read the headers for the emails designated to go to
the additional mailbox, it creates that rule as a client side only rule. Why
is that? My other rules seem to be on the server side.

because you need to actually open the mailbox directly to create a server
side rule for that mailbox - rules in your mailbox only work on that folder
when outlook is open.

Thank you to all. I logged in as that account and created the rule to work o
nthe headers and when I went into the other profile where I had the account
as an additional mailbox, the rule worked perfectly.
