What are these files in Outlook folder?

When I looked at Outlook folder, I see two files other than pst file:

extend.dat
Outlook.nk2

What are dat and nk2 and what are they for? Jorge
 
nk2 = nickname file - as you type in names in the to/cc/bcc line and outlook
suggests the names, it comes from this file

dat = 3rd party addin/extension tracking file
