I was on a website the other day,one of those that give you tips on making
your computer run better and faster, and whatever...and there was a tip on
there that said that all of the files on your computer that are written in
BLUE are just meaningless files and that you could remove them all and
"clear up" a lot of wasted space,as you can probably already tell,I do not
know that much about computers, but I am not a COMPLETE MORON!!(well,at least
I hope not) but I did not jump and start to remove all of my "BLUE"
files, because I just went with my gut instinct, and it said " DON'T DO IT".
Can anyone tell me what they are for?I am running WinXPProf. and I would
GREATLY APPRECIATE some input on this! Should I start deleting them,or do
they have some sort of significant purpose???Thanks to anyone who can help
me!!

If you look at the names of some of the folders with the names in blue
you will see that they have Uninstall in them. They are usually used by
Microsoft to allow you to roll back a patch from them.

Blue simply means compressed.
On of the ways files are compressed is through the Disk Cleanup "Compress
old files" option.
That is probably where that tip originated. If that option is selected,
files that are not used in a certain period of time are compressed.
From there an assumption is made they are not needed.
Files can be compressed manually as well as some programs can do it.
While some can probably be safely deleted, others should not.
Do not delete them unless you are sure the file is not necessary.
The color is not a reliable indicator of importance.

Some are uninstall files, many are not.
Nothing more than they are compressed can be determined by the color since
there are various ways files are compressed.
