any av with an on-access scanner should protect the clients from mail
attachments when they click on them... mail scanning is a little bit
redundant in that sense... however, you typically have more control
over the server machine than you do over the clients (your users could
disable the client-side protection) so your mileage may vary...
I currently use Symantec Antivirus (version 8.00.9374) on my windows
2000 professional box. Is this an on-access scanner? If I have an email
infected with virus in my lotus notes inbox, can it detect and kill the
virus?
i suspect so... an on-access scanner is a scanner that scans files when
they're accessed... basically it's a background scanner... most windows
anti-virus products have that capability these days...

i don't know for certain what sav can be configured to do when it's
on-access component detects a virus, but it should definitely be able
to prevent it from running, and that's the important part...
