What am I doing wrong?

I have a hp latop with Vista. There are times when I am typing that I must
hit two keys together unknowingly which reverse my Cap Lock feature. Then,
if I have the Caps Lock on only small characters type, if I have it off then
all characters are large. This is driving me crazy!! What am I doing and how
do I fix it?

What program are you typing in?
It is most likely a feature of that program, not HP.

Yup, that was the first thing I did.

I've seen this happen on one of our "Thin Clients" at work but not
elsewhere so looked on Google and found this which may sound similar to
your problem... The client problem is software (Drivers I think) but
that's all built in so just have to switch off and start over for us
until / unless there's a makers update.

If it's something that's being caused by a "Combination" of hardware and
software it's going to be hard to track down, by that I mean it may be a
pair of keys but not always the same two, and this just might be caused
by the way the keyboard scanning software is written or maybe a driver
between the keyboard and "Windows". In those cases HP should at least be
aware of it, since neither the software (if any) in the keyboard ROM and
the driver are not really anything to do with Microsoft.

It could also be a plain and simple hardware fault caused by the
keyboard substrate flexing as you type. The only feasible cure for that
would be a new unit.

You might get lucky using the model number and the words "Caps lock" in
Google, and various combinations, you may find something HP tech support
don;t know about but 10,000 users do :)
