What a difference a clean install makes!

I previously did an upgrade from RC1 to RC2 and found Vista to be even
slower on my PC than it was under RC1.

Recently I decided to take the plunge and start from scratch. I now
find RC2 to be faster than XP. This was important to me because it
influences my upgrade decision.

I've now decided to go for it. I've got Ultimate Upgrade Edition
pre-ordered from Amazon.com.

I've also got in installed on another (less powerful) PC and I'm quite
pleased. It runs Aero far better than I expected. My only concern there
is the previously mentioned upgrade procedure due to the lack of an XP
CD. Stupid HP.....

The problem with the upgrades is not the OS but the apps carried over.

Normally I would agree but I was speaking of Vista RC1 to RC2 (not to be
confused with RTM). As I stated my fresh install of RC1 was sloooow. A
later fresh install of RC2 was MUCH faster.

I see. Most of the debugging code was removed after RC1 so that makes
sense.
