Win XP Pro
I can go to Microsoft validation site and my copy of windows passes the
validation check. But Windows Genuine Advantage Notification (KB905474) fails
to install. It returns with the message "Updates were unable to be
successfully installed".

The following updates were not installed:
Windows Genuine Advantage Notification (KB905474)

All other updates install successfully. Right after installing Windows 46
updates downloaded and 45 installed successfully. With this one being the
only one to fail.
I had to set Automatic Updates to only notify me of the updates because when
I had it set to automatically download and install them this downloading and
trying to install.

Can someone help me with this problem, please?

Believe me, that last thing you want on your computer is WGA which is
Microsoft's spyware and tells them about all the software you've got on your
computer.
Regards Mike.

Mike I agree with you 100%. But I have a legal copy of windows and curious as
to whay WGA would not install. My problem has been solved. I found a manual
download and install of WGA on a Microsoft site and it solved the problem. I
have since removed WGA from my system. By going into safe mode and deleting
everything that referred to WGA and using regedit to clean the registry of
all referrals to WGA. Now I just have to make sure that it doesn't return via
automatic updates.
