This error started 4 days ago. When the welcome screen
come up it shows "xp user" and I click on it to log in and
it logs in and then logs out in about a second but I can
not get to the desktop. I searched the knowledge base and
found 313322 security log full. Could this be my problem?

I doubt it, however you should boot to safe mode (F8) and
open the Microsoft Management Console. You can increase
the default size of the logs. More importantly, you should set
the logs to overwrite data after 2-3 days. You can also set
the logs to filter Informational & Warnings and capture only
error events.
I set my event logs to 1024 size and overwrite data after 2
days. In most cases you are interested in recent data. Most
times the events from the last reboot of the computer are the
critical data you would need to review.

I tried safe mode and the same thing happens. I try to log
in and it logs in and out in a second and I can not get in
to the system. I also tried the last known good with no
luck.

I have this exact same problem that also started about 4
days ago. I cannot login via any of the safemode options
as well as the login screen. Any help would be
appreciated.

The normal answer would be to do a "Repair" install. That's
if you have a full XP installation CD-ROM. This issue seems
to be posted with greater frequency during the past few weeks.

Without a disk, it's not possible to boot to the Recovery console.

Using that you could rename the SAM hive of the Registry &
be able to login via the Administrator account. Or you could
do the Registry replacement process from the Recovery boot.

It may be time for users to demand that they receive at least a
bootable CD that contains the Recovery Console code. These
types of issues totally hamstring the user to fall back on the full
System Recovery disks/partitions that deletes all the user data.

Perhaps someone could create a ISO image of the Recovery
console on a bootable CD-R and make it available. The OEM's
really do the customers a disservice by limiting their ability to
fix and repair their installs of Windows XP.

I am in the recovery console and I was able to log in with
that but not the welcome screen. How do you rename the SAM
hive? Where is it and what will I lose?
