Hello,

I'm an intermediate level user at computing myself. I've never come
across this kinda problem before. I don't even know what the source of
the problem is.
Here's it:-

I'm working on MS word and suddenly the computer restarts!

I checked the power supply. The leds in the modem and speakers didn't
even give a flicker. My UPS didn't even make a noise. All the systems
were go.

I scanned my computer for virus/spyware with the latest defenitions
using zone alarm pro internet security suite just yersterday. No
infections found.

Any suggestions or advices are welcome.

Check the logs in Event Viewer for any entries that might give a clue to the
problem. Also change it to not automatically restart on error. If an error
caused it then next time, if it happens again, it might stop at a Blue
Screen with an error message.

Right click My Computer | Properties | Advanced | Startup and Recovery -
Settings | Untic Automatically restart. Ok out.

If it errors now record that message verbatim and start your troubleshooting
here: http://aumha.org/a/stop.htm, and do Google web and group searches on
the error.

This can be due to any number of issues - overheating, software problems,
hardware/driver problem, power supply, power system including the
motherboard, RAM, etc.

Open the case and clean out all the dust bunnies. Carefully use a can of
compressed air. Use appropriate grounding procedures.

a common problem causing sudden restarts/shut down is heat.
might run a temperature/fan monitor program
I use Speed Fan.

buy a can of compressed air and blow the dust out. paying particular attention to the cpu fan and heat sink grills.
