Weird XP Pro Boot Install Problem

O

Owen Shiers

Hi, I'm having problems installing XP. The disk is bootable, and runs
the first DOS setup screen (where you select partitions etc) from the
disk. The weird thing is, after copying setup files to the hard disk,
nothing happens. The computer reboots and the computer stops at the
'to boot from cd press any key now.....' screen. If I take the disk
out and tell BIOS to boot first from the hard drive that the setup
files have been copied to, it boots, but I just get a black screen
with a blinking underscore in the top left corner.

Any help appreciated

Owen.

Since you didn't include any of your hardware details, it's not possible
to give you specific help. However, usually problems installing an
operating system stem from faulty hardware. Check your cd drive(s),
RAM, etc. If you need to know how to do that or want more detailed
advice, post back with more information about your system.

Turns out it was the hard disk. I had previously re-formatted because
for some reason Windows XP would not run setup.exe files, and so I
couldn't run my reveb VSTs. I created a seperate partition on my other
drive and it ran great. The faulty drive still runs fine in XP, it just
won't boot...

Cheers for the help

Owen
