Weird XP Networking Problem

K

Ken Widelitz

I have a 4 computer network, two with Win98 and 2 with
Win XP. They were all working perfectly with Netbeui
until Win XP had to be reinstalled on one computer
because it became unstable.

Now each Win XP machine can share files with both both
Win 98 machines. Each Win XP machine can see the files
and folders on the other. The Win XP machine that was not
subject to the reinstall can print to printers on the Win
XP that was reinstalled.

However, the Win XP machines can not successfully ping
each other and shared files are not available to each
other, although they are available to the Win 98 machines.

I have gone to the practicallyconnected site and reviewed
the info. I have deleted and recreated the shortcuts on
the computer that had XP reintalled to the computer that
previously was able to share files.

I get the same error message that the folder "is not
accessible. You might not have permission to use this
network resource ...

Not enough server storage is available to process this
command"

This is a peer to peer network and no programs are
running on either machine, so I don't understand the
server storage message.

Thanks in advance for any help.

That error message is completely misleading. The problem is probably
that an antivirus program has changed an obscure TCP/IP setting.
Please see this Microsoft Knowledge Base article for a likely
solution, specifying a value of 15 for IRPStackSize on the "server"
computer:

Hi Steve,

Thanks for the response. I read the article and
increased IRPStackSize 1st to 14, then to 30, then to 50
and still have the same exact error message. Any other
suggestions?
