Weird Problem with WMP10 and .avi files!

I've got a wierd problem that has just developed with WMP 10.

When playing any .avi files (Xvid, DivX, etc.) the first few seconds
plays as normal, then the picture framerate slows to almost still but
the sound continues as normal. This happens about every 2 out of 3
times but not everytime.

I can play any .avi file reliably in Media Player Classic, so the
problem must be with WMP 10. I've tried uninstalling and
re-installing.....no change. I've also been using WMP 10 for over a
year with absolutely no previous problem.

Any ideas what could be causing this sudden change, and what can I do
about it??

Uninstall all codecs.
Reinstall all codecs.

microsoft.public.multimedia.windows.mediaplayer
