Can any one give me a clue as to whats happening here?

I have installed Tiscali broadband in the UK on to a PC that originally had
a dialup connection, and now when I start up IE I get an error message that
IE has experienced a problem and needs to shutdown, the error report info is
as follows.

AppName: iexplore.exe Appver 6.0.2800.1106
Modname: msvcrt.dll Modver: 6.1.8293.0 Offset 000154a7

The strange part about this is that if I start IE in offline mode and then
connect everthing works OK, but if I connect when starting IE the crash
happens.

Any help / suggesitons would be much appreciated.

I think both your modems (broadband and 56K) are trying to access the
internet at the same time. To turn off your dial up, go to Control Panel,
Network Connections, and delete your 56K dial-up connection. If this doesn't
work, then go to Control Panel, Performance/Maintenance, Sys Info, Hardware
tab. Click on "Device Manager," then look for your dialup modem (under the
Modems section) and uninstall its driver by double clicking it, "Drivers"
tab, uninstall driver. Hope this works...

Did you recently install any third-party programs?
If so, try uninstalling them again.
BTW the Google toolbar is a known culprit.

That could be symptomatic of spyware being present.
