I'm working with a document that was scanned as rich text. In Word there are
some words that have a break character that looks like a hypen with an edge
on it. What is that called and is there a way to globally get rid of them?
I'm revising the document from the scan. Thanks.

Is it the Not Sign? ALT+0172? You should be able to copy it and paste it
into your Find and Replace dialog box. (When you are in the dialog box, you
will need to CTRL+V to paste what you have copied into it.)

Then you can replace it with whatever is appropriate for your situation.

Yep, that's the Not Sign. (See Insert, Symbols)

Exactly what Dawn was referring to - it's used in Word to indicate the
presence of an Optional Hyphen.
